Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television journalist, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years after that as a general reporter. 1981 was the year she began reporting on at the White House, and in 1988 was named chief congressional Correspondent. In 1992, she was made chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell participated on the TV show Meet the Press and also hosted the program. She was on the panel during 1988's presidential debates, which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her role in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell started covering the White House in 1981-1988, both during Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell reported on a variety of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal, fiscal tax reforms, as well as arms control. Mitchell traveled together with President Ronald Reagan several times for summits, and to discuss issues including that of the Iran Contra controversy.
